A Better Idea

A Thoughtful, Community-Aligned Future

A Better Idea for Wonderland

Ocean City’s leaders have rightly said no to the proposal for a high-rise hotel at Wonderland Pier. Their decision reflected the voices of the majority of Ocean City residents and was a testament to the strength of our community’s engagement. Neighbors, families, and small business owners spoke up—and City Council listened. That’s a major victory for Ocean City.

But the Work Isn’t Over…

Wonderland Commons

We now need to make sure this stretch of the Boardwalk has a thoughtful, community-aligned future. The current developer has said he will walk away and sell. His approach was always “my way or the highway.” Now, the door is open for something better: a new owner, and a new vision that works for the whole community.

That’s why Ocean City 2050 created Wonderland Commons: a proposal that shows what’s possible. It’s a strong, practical compromise—something the original developer was not interested in—that meets community needs while delivering long-term value for our city.

We also know there are local investors interested in carrying this vision forward. Their involvement makes this proposal a serious option for consideration as the City moves through its master plan process.

Why It Matters Now

City Council’s master plan process is about shaping the future of the Boardwalk and our city. Wonderland Pier is one of the most important sites in that process—and its future will help define Ocean City for decades to come.

Wonderland Commons is an example of the kind of vision that should be on the table: one that delivers value for new ownership, reflects community priorities, and strengthens Ocean City’s long-term appeal.

It offers a path toward compromise and collaboration—and a way to keep Ocean City true to what makes it special.

This is the kind of vision that belongs in the City’s master plan.
This is how you turn a better idea into a real, working place.
